A Middle Aged Man With Pulmonary Embolism Mimicking Pneumonia

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a serious medical
condition. It occurs when a clot usually from the deep
vein thrombosis (DVT) is dislodged and subsequently
occludes the pulmonary circulation. It is clinically
manifested as shortness of breath, pleuritic chest pain,
coughing, orthopnea, hemoptysis and much other less
common presentation. The patient can present with
the circulatory collapse in massive pulmonary
embolism. When an established PE occurs without
any evidence of DVT, the condition is called de novo
pulmonary embolism (DNPE). A recent study showed
that DNPE is not uncommon1
